I recently purchased the trance production set. I have now watched all of the trance DVD, I am yet to find time for the mixing mastering DVD but I am eager to check that one out as well.
I have a technical new media background and have been messing with 3d apps, flash, after effects etc for over 10 years, I only recently got into audio just over a year ago, starting out with FL Studio and recently trying to transfer over to Ableton.
The Trance dvd was really good to watch through, it is of a higher quality than video tutorials I have watched online partly due to the amount of time available to spend going over all of the essentials and also because Rick really seems to know his stuff and so is able to keep coming up with great tip after great tip.
It was by re-reading the DMM(version 1) that caused me to stumble across this site and order the dvds and watching the first dvd has made me want to go back and study some chapters with more focus.
As previously mentioned the template idea is really good and the ability to get your creative ideas down fast makes a lot of sense.
I didn't even know what a transient designer was before watching this dvd!
There are some really useful ideas for how to start with a simple seed of an idea and grow this into a full blown track.
Despite cutting out a lot of hours of work that went into the track everything in the process is explained as it goes.
Being able to watch the process from start to finish really helps everything gel together as you can see where and when to focus on each aspect of the track and how things start to work together.
One technical glitch with the DVD interface I have on my PC is that my quicktime browser plugin doesnt show the player controls (a known bug with 64bit windows) so I have been watching the videos in quicktime player straight off the disk (using the html menu as a guide for the correct order, would have been handy if the folders were numbered in order)
I will see how the Mixing dvd goes but I am sure I will be back to buy other dvds as the amount of quality seems to be well worth the price.
