Fundamental - the fifth DVD from Dance Music Production - is a tutorial dedicated to the ‘fundamental’ production techniques that all producers should be fully versed in.

In this first edition of the fundamental series, and due to popular request, this DVD discusses the most vital element behind all types of dance music: groove.

Over 3 hours of video tutorials focus on the crucial aspects behind the production, programming, building and engineering professional sounding drum rhythms. The DVD begins with step-by-step tutorials on synthesizing a number of different drums timbres, alongside editing, tuning and layering to produce the perfect timbres. If you thought it was as simple as choosing a few samples…think again.

The tutorials then move onto the different techniques involved in programming professional dance rhythms using a number of genres (House and Trance, Chill Out, Progressive House, Tech House and Techno) as examples, revealing the various techniques involved in keeping them sounding fresh, how and where to use dissonance and projection, alongside the use of effects and processors to create that professional sound that your entire track depends upon. And all in the same, complete, in-depth style you’ve come to expect from the Dance Music Productions DVD series.

Hi. I preordered this today thinking it was the last one but when i went back to the shop it showed 6 in stock. Just wondering what happened as i would have waited a bit longer if i had thought they were still in stock. Cheers.

We have some who jump in and attempt to purchase a number of DVD's at a time, which are then sold on for a profit on other sites. Consequently, we limit pre-orders to one per customer so anyone who buys more than that is refunded the difference and the stock is returned to the shop. Plus, due to the demand, I've had to put my own reserved copies in the shop.

Dear Mr.Snoman,

is the volume 5 fundamental a substitute for the volume 1: dance floor? do they cover the similar topics?

also, i was going to purchase one or two of the dvd, but they are sold out at the moment. Is there a chance you might sell your tutorials videos in a digital format? so customers can download the videos.
If the products are dowloadable videos instead of hard copy dvd, there wouldn't be a situation where the products are out of stocks, and the customers wouldn't have to wait till the products arrive to their door.

Volume 5 and Volume 1 cover very different topics. V5 Fundamental is the first in a series covering the basics that all producers should know well, V1 dance floor covers how to write, engineer and produce a track for a club. I'm sure some will ask what genre it discusses etc but I will release information before its release and it'll make sense why no genre is named

I currently have no plans to distribute digitally over the internet mainly because of bandwidth. A reliable server capable of offering full resolution video downloads (I hate straining my eyes at tiny bandwith friendly screens) would be a substantial outlay and that cost would have to be passed onto the customers, resulting in a cost similar to purchasing a 'hard copy'. I'm a producer first and make the DVD's (and write the books) in my spare time, so my sales are limited and to cover large bandwidth would result in that amount having to be split amongst the customers.

Hello Rick,

You’ve probably had loads of people say it to you but i would like to congratulate you on your Book and dvd series, I’ve found them a good source of information and have pointed me in the right direction.
I originally stumbled across your website looking for a resource on synthesis and ended up buying the dance music manual, synthesis, trance, mixing and mastering dvd’s.

I wondered if you have ever thought of doing a Psychedelic Trance dvd, creating a track or going into the mechanics of the genre? I know some will say you’ve already done the trance series but Psy-Trance is a different kettle of fish in terms of the way it sounds

I hadn't considered it but I'm open to all requests. I have to finish the next DVD and the second volume of the book, but as soon as they're done, I'll get to work on a Psy-Trance tutorial.

Hi Rick,

I was really intrested in buying the Fundementals DVD but as you are fully aware it has sold out. I was wondering if/when you would be pressing more copies and if so please can I reserve one?

I am suprised that not many people have left comments about you DVD's. I bought the Synthesis DVD because I felt that area was lacking in my production. The DVD was a real eye opener!

I then bought the Trance & Mixing & Mastering DVD's which have improved my production skills no end!

I will write a review for all of these now as I feel you more than deserve the credit for the time you have put in & the infomation you have parted with.

We have contacted the supplier and increased the order of DVD for Fundamental so there's some available now. We won't be repeating the order for another 8 to 10 weeks though (we have another going for press) so grab them while they're hot

Yes, we're actually expecting them in on Thursday (18th Feb) but there is a few days grace on delivery so it may be Firday or Saturday before they arrive in stock. Once they're in, we'll start shipping same day

I bought the dance music manual vol 2 and synthesis dvd, both oh which are awesome and I'm really looking forward to this. I was wondering if you've thought about doing a dvd on effective sampling techniques within dance music? For example in the style of four tet's latest album or a general techno/minimal style? You must have a whole lot of requests haha, personally I think also a dubstep and drum and bass dvd would go down well also, but i thought that sampling is definately worth a mention.
