@  sp!ll : (11 November 2014 - 04:49 PM) well you can, you just gotta remember the days are made up of hrs and those hrs are made of minutes, if you can't spend hrs, spend a couple mins a day testing out ideas/techniques, you'll be surprised how a couple mins a day helps you retain info and keep creative :)

hey guys. I would like to know about the chord progression Mr Snoman has listed on page 37 of the Dance Music Manual... the popular chord progressions. Well I am not that familiar with music theory so I do now know about these particular chords listed on this page... so my question is how do these work?

It is labeled Keys and Chord in the table
For the keys section does this mean that all the keys are suppose to be held down simultaneously to produce the sound? I have a feeling that it does... however further down the table where there are 6 and 7 keys to be held down simultanesouly my fingers are then not able to reach them and some of the notes are in strange order it seems like the the C13 one.... C-E-G-Bb-D-A .. the A comees after the D? when trying to play this, it seems odd. I just want to be sure I have this right though... so if you guys can elaborate and make this a lot more lucid for me id appreciate it.


basically how does this table work?!!

I was wondering about the chart too as it says here are some popular progressions, but the chart seems to just lists chords and not progressions......To answer your question above...you need to press the keys down together to play the chord...the chords further down are spread chords..meaning the chord is spread over a couple of octaves...if your fingers cant reach all of the notes, then just draw the chord into your sequences piano roll matrix and hit play to hear what it sounds like.......Anyway....can some one clear this issue up just to make sure that we are all understanding the chart correctly....

2 ways to accomplish the chords...
hold all the keys down at one time

or

arpeggiated (broken chord)
which is playing note after note successively

(as far as the progression chart...I never asked the question but I was wondering that too)

To further this topic there is some excellent charts for chord progressions at http://www.chordmaps.com/ i think this is possible the most straight forward guide to music theory out there......

There's a concept in chord spelling called "Inversion" which will solve this problem for you. Just include the notes listed for each chord anywhere in the chord you can. With C13 it's perfectly acceptable to play it C-D-Eb-G-A-Bb. Even with the 7th on top, it will still very much sound like a 13 chord. As long as those are the only notes played, you can play them in *almost* any order you like.
